chart

i have seen pull down school charts used as decorations on the wall and thought they were so cool... yet all the maps and pull down charts are so expensive. SO I ordered this paper a few months ago-with the intention of making my own so called "pull down charts". Tonight I did just that. I found some old plastic molding in the garage...cut it apart and taped the paper on it. Then added a piece of string to hang it and a little metal ring to look like a pull down ring. Now I just need to figure where exactly on the wall I want to hang them....

I keep forgetting to take a picture of what I put on one of my living room shelves. I saw an idea where someone had taken different clipboards and put pictures and drawings on them....like frames...so I did just that!

jean skirt

Today I am wearing a jean skirt….yeah…a jean skirt-don’t judge. Its not a homeschool mom, long jean skirt-which I did have at once-but just one that goes to my knees….. I was debating what to wear and saw it in my closet this morning and thought-it’s been awhile dear jean skirt. The problem is that I think it’s about 4 years old.-it might just be way past its prime-but it’s so comfortable and hey-if it still fits me after 4 years..thats great too! I asked Ben if it looked dorky-he said “No-its fine”-but then again-what does he care-he doesn’t have to be seen with me all day. So I wore it..but now I’m rethinking my decision-yet- really-I shouldn’t be..Its summer time and no one is around. And who says it’s any dorkier than everything else I wear on a daily basis?

Last night I mowed the yard. As I was mowing- our neighbor-this about 70 year old lady who never shuts up when you get her talking…comes over to the fence-obviously-wanting to chat. Great…now my night of mowing is going to last even longer. So I stopped the mower and we talked about:

-Gardens-and how mine is pretty much non –existent and how there are rabbits in out yard. No way-rabbits in my yard? Ohh….So that’s where all the rabbit poop came from? seriously

-Where she used to have her garden-it was by the door, then by the fence and OH she used string and rags to keep the birds away

-Where the first house owner kept his garden-and wow-"he grew kale, and turnips and weird things like that-but he was German-you know-they like weird food?" Seriously.

-Our dog and how the guy before us had a lab-named Buddy-he barked whenever they walked in their door-they would say “It’s just us buddy”

-Oh and how could I forget….the water was turned off yesterday afternoon for some construction they are doing. Its almost like her world came to a crashing halt. :

Neighbor: "Tonight is the night my son does his laundry! (2 of her grown sons live with her-awkward) I can’t even flush the toilet and I have a pile of dishes sitting in the sink!”

Me: "Yah…ours was on after I was done eating dinner"

Neighbor: “Well..mine isn’t! I called the village and they said they put a note in my box but you want to know where I found that note-in the neighbors yard! How am I supposed to know about this when it isn’t even in my box!”

Me: "I noticed we had a note too-but not until I checked the mail as well."

All the time she was talking she had some food in her mouth she had clearly been savoring…little pieces kept coming out as she talked…..ugggg….Finally it ended and I went back to mowing….i also started to weed eat but then the weed eater did something weird that I didn’t feel like dealing with-so I am putting it off until later

Continuing to fuel my thrift store obsession, I took another trip to my favorite Wheaton thrift store and found something i have always wanted to buy-just never felt like putting out $9 or $10.00 for-because really..what do you do with a A Giant Microbe. But when I found the Bookworm for $1.00-I was sold!! Granted I would much rather have the sore throat, typhoid fever, ebola or chickenpox microbe-but the bookworm will do for now-I'm sure it will quickly becomes one of Olivers new favorite toys.

I also bought a Judy Clock-really..who needs a Judy Clock?--well..probably not me..but for $1.00 you can't pass that up either-and it seems to be an older style one...I always loved these when I was little-so why not have one of my own!? I just feel there is fun potential with it...either for future use or decorating ... somewhere...somehow..

besides a couple more stuffed animals for Oliver and a photo album to put our house progress photos in...the last thing I found was Harold's Fairy Tale. In my opinion one can never have too many Harold and The Purple Crayon books in their collection

First of all..HAPPY BIRTHDAY NIKKI!!!  You are awesome and I am so lucky to have you as my sister!! Its awesome to have a sister and best friend all wrapped up in one neat package--YOU!! ha...anyways....I love you-and despite a few of these pictures looking like I am trying to kill you.....I never wanted to harm you..EVER....well, except that time I purposely left the gate on the staircase unlocked and you fell down the stairs in your walker...whooops.....why would I-sweet, innocent, little Christy ever do such a thing?! ;)  hmm...i think its called being 5 years old when your sister is born and not wanting to willingly give up your title of princess....all of a sudden it was not just me anymore!

so lets see..the weekend...we went to see Harry Potter yesterday afternoon...and then just hung around the house-watching tv, taking care of the dog..etc

today we went to crate and barrel outlet...my favorite store ever....Ben found a coffee table for $90.00.. solid maple and matches the living room....so we got it..i looked it up in my crate and barrel furniture catalog when we got home and it retails for......ready!? $500!! Does it get better than that? ohh i love a deal...I also got a little picnic basket-it was missing the top..and vases for the wall..i have always loved these vases...so to find them for 2.00 was fabulous!!! hall of fame

so who knew that when we moved to Forest Park we would be living 2 blocks from the "Chicago 16 inch Softball Hall of Fame". how about that? funny thing is I had to clue it existed or was unveiled yesterday until I saw it in the tribune this morning. no wonder there were so many cars and people down the street. Even more unique is that they are hosting the 16" No Gloves National Softball Tournament this week/weekend....I think i might just have to walk up the block to check it out -ha.

Ben is finally home and i -seriously-could not be happier. Of course, I missed him tons and love having him always around-but its also nice to have him around to help take care of the terror known as our dog- Oliver. Actually...he isn't that bad-just a lot of work and needs a lot of attention-all...the...time... you cant even walk anywhere in the house without him being right at your heels.

Every night we go for a walk and at least 1 car has rolled down their window and said something like "That is the cutest thing I have ever seen!" or "What kind of dog is he-he is so cute" and as we walk by houses and people outside they all flip out over his cuteness-which I don't blame them bc he sure is darn cute!! The neighborhood kids are also totally smitten with him-last night they came running over from across the street-"Oliver! The Puppy" and petted him.....so it all makes up for his busyness...kind of...:)

Yesterday Ben also informed me that the piano technicians convention is in Vegas next year......I am SO going with!!! VEGAS BABY!;)

Find

My mom came out to wheaton today for some thrift store shopping (yes, I am on a thrift store kick lately-well, more than a normal thrift store kick) and I went with her to one of them over lunch. I saw this baby scale for 5.00 and debated getting it...I finally decided to just go for it-too neat to pass up. The manufacture date on the bottom is Dec. 4, 1939.... A good find if you ask me...

replacement

we got a George Foreman grill for a wedding gift and have only used it a few times. 2 weeks ago we were making hot dogs (well, not for me obviously) and when you would set them on the grill you would get an electric shock...so not cool. SO I contacted the company-thought, hey-what does it hurt-i might as well see what they can do. Today the lady asked me all sorts of questions-" what were you cooking when you got shocked, where was the grill located, etc" and she said they will be sending us a replacement....awesome! she told me they dont make our exact model anymore but will replace it with one that is a little larger-you can't beat that!!

a little dog update: oliver is doing good...BUT monday night was not good with him...we decided to make sure to close him in his crate at night so he will realize its time to sleep...he did not like that...he cried like every other hour..he usually has to go to the bathroom like 3 times at night..but he would cry after every time...i was about to freak...i put ear plugs in and my pillow over my head...it was no fun....and ben is out of town all week so it was just me and the darn dog....

luckily my mom and sister are here this week and we wore him out BIG time last night..he was so tired he couldn't even walk.....poor guy...but we kept him up til the last possible moment and he went right to bed....woke up to go to the bathroom 2 times....and did a brief amount of whining and back to sleep.. phew....i thought this dog was going to be the end of me on monday night....but we survived...

duct work

Our dryer hasn't been working properly and took forever , if it even did, to dry clothes. We finally called an appliance repair to come take a look and the guy came out yesterday. He replaced 2 burnt out coils..or something...and then showed us how the dryer vent had a birds nest in it...seriously...there was no protective anything over the opening and since no one was living here for awhile the bird found it a great place to start a family. GREAT. He was unable to get it out for us so we decided to either knock out the drywall or buy a long auger (yes, now we own 2 toliet augers) and try to push the stuff out as well as suck it up with the shop vac. Ben went to work....and found this:

as well as a huge pile of lint..which I did not take a picture of...sorry. But..I think we have fixed the problem and will now not cause a lint fire in our house....seriously
on the puppy front...he is as cute as ever! he loves being around ben and i at ALL times! I'm sure being home alone all day starting tomorrow will be tough...but what can you do?  He is enjoying running in the backyard, playing, and sleeping...its a tough life...

Today we drove to Indiana to pick up our little dog Oliver.....and he is SO cute. He slept in his crate the whole way home, didn't leave any messes in our car and never made a noise....awesome!

we fed him, gave him a little bath and tired to get him to use the litter tonight-which was not successful.. but thats a given considering he is only 7 weeks...

He is SOOOO stinking cute. He was a bit stressed after his little bath and fell asleep on Ben for quite a bit of the eve...awww

succulent sucker

So i settled on some succulents & a cactus for new life in my office....they were 3.00 at home depot..i couldn't resist...im a sucker for any and all succulents. BUT my windowsill at work looks much better and succulents always bring a little more joy to my life....

Tomorrow is puppy day! we are driving to the middle of indiana....aka the middle of nowhere....to pick him up..its going to be an adventure. I will also start Olivers new blog tomorrow and chronicle his cute puppy life...

Ben is going to be in MI for a piano tuning convention all next week...I know-I know...You are asking..."Why in the world am I not going along?" I mean-DANG what could be worth using my precious vacation days more than a piano tuning convention!  Well...let me tell you...someone has to take care of Oliver next week..so I guess I'll have to stay back...sigh....the sadness is flowing through me....  anyways...it could be an interesting week.. my mom is coming up to hang out and nikki is spending the week at my place too....so the 3 of us "lovers of cats" and Oliver, the dog...how will we fare!? We may turn into dog lovers....or puppy lovers at least.....only time will tell...

Poke

In preparation for our new puppy arrival I was reading some dog stuff..I came upon this..

"10. Poke Privileges: All family members must be able to handle any part of the pup-including feet, teeth, under the tail and genitals. From the first day your pup becomes part of your household, make certain to practice gentle handling of all body parts."

interesting...

over my lunch break i ran to petsmart to pick up a dog litter pan.....I got a few other things as well and the total was $14.00..i thought..hmmm... something must of been on sale....as I walked out I looked at the receipt. the dog litter pan rang up at .....ready for it?........1 cent! awesome...what are the chances. someone obviously mispriced that one.....funny thing was the cashier didn't even seem to think twice or do anything about it..maybe she was just as surprised... what a great deal.....now the other great deal will be if he actually uses the litter pan like he is supposed to......

over so quick

and once again my weekend and day off are over so quick....sigh... but i was able to accomplish many things and still enjoy the time.  today ben and i puppy proofed and cleaned our house....yep-thats right! next week at this time we will be official dog owners....oh boy.....i have never had a dog-in fact i always hated dogs....im more of a cat person....this will be interesting....

So lets see...what did I do this weekend?...nikki and i hung out friday..went shopping to ikea-got a hanging lamp for the living room-which ben hung up today....on saturday we rented a big old pick up truck from home depot and picked up some dressers for our bedroom.....we sanded them down and will be painting them black...then we did some house stuff-I painted the medicine cabinet white in the bathroom-Its not perfect but looks MUCH better than the gross wood... saturday eve. nikki and her friend came over and we had a little picnic---on our enclosed porch---potato salad, hot dogs, veggie burger for me, cucumbers, strawberries, chips, beans....we also made fun of all the funny people walking by on the sidewalk. After dinner we walked up the street 2 blocks and to watch the Forest Park fireworks....which were a surprisingly good show..while waiting we laughed at more weird people-it seems they all come out the woodwork for things like this.....after fireworks we walked home the 2 blocks-while everyone else had to drive-our street was lined with cars...it was great.

so.....here is the cabinet before (with the previous owners lovely yellow color scheme) and after (its not a very good pic-sorry)...(we also took down the soap holder and wood towel bars-ick).....we are hoping to do something about that hideous tile someday too...one project at a time:)

spray on

today i left work at noon...which left me 4 extra hours to my day!! i got a table for my plants from the thrift store the other day and had another little table my mom gave me. They both had seen better days so I decided they needed some touching up-plus I wanted them to be black. I went to walmart to get some paint and the only black paint that looked good to use was spray paint-so figured-hey, why not-spray paint should work just fine. so i sanded down my little tables and applied the spray paint and gosh darn it-they look great! the top of one was pretty messed up and you can see it through the paint a bit....but they look 10 million times better now! i also painted 2 light wood frames that I always wished were black...so now they are!  after the tables I was able to put the 2nd coat of paint on the wood paneling and it looks great! My next job is painting our ugly wood medicine cabinet...im going to prime it tonight and then paint it white.....always something to do around here.....
