Marks, Set, Go!

Sophia and Ben were "racing" from the bathroom to bedroom last night. I'm not sure where she got the Marks, Set, Go thing or the race stance...but it was awesome. Ben got great exercise last night because she kept running back and forth for about 20 minutes straight doing this.

First Haircut

We took Sophia to get her first haircut yesterday. There is a new kid's hair place in Oak Park and they did a great job. Sophia chose to watch Sesame Street while getting her hair cut and only had a couple freak outs. Once she got a sucker she was happy as a clam. She looks so much older with shorter hair!

Peas

This girl is a bit weird when it comes to her veggies. Supposedly she is one of the only kids at daycare that actually eats her veggies-which makes me feel like I did something right-ha.  But when she is home it's a different story. She never eats her veggies. In fact, she doesn't want to eat much I make. She eats a peanut butter and jelly sandwich or yogurt pretty much every night. If she wants some of the food on our plates then she takes it. I try to put some of our food on her plate at times...usually she doesn't touch it....but I figure it's at least there. Last night Ben and I had peas...she had baby carrots (side note: When we were eating out the other night she got some baby carrots and she liked them. Who even knew!?) and they sat there untouched. After she was finished she wanted up on Ben's lap and here is what followed:

Not Yet....

I guess we must utter the phrase "Not yet" around our house enough that Sophia picked up on it...

Sickos

So I was sewing and watching tv and an ad for Long Johns came on. This is the Long Johns here in Forest Park- ha. I knew they were filming something there a few months ago... I guess this was it. I've never thought it was the best looking Long Johns- but I guess for this ad it did the job:)

Sophia and I were sick for pretty much a whole week. Annoying. We are finally on the mend. I ended up taking Sophia to the Dr because she had a fever every day and a terrible cough. Of clear, I wasted 20 bucks because it was just a viral thing. But with this terrible cough she has I'm glad I, at least, found out it wasn't something worse. After that appointment I realized that one year ago- to the day- I took her in- for a cold- and it was just viral- guess it's just that time of the year.

Ben was working last night and Sophia and I went to out block party for a bit. She had a blast chasing the neighbor boy- who I only 6 mos older than her- on his little scooter. It was pretty cute to watch.

Other than trying to not be sick anymore- not much else is happening around these parts.

2 Butts

My Mom is teaching art at the grade school and I've been on the look out for art/craft books at the thrift store. Today I found a book with all sorts of art recipes. The penciled in ingredient is what really makes this recipe stand out (and crack me up).

weekend away

Sophia and I went down to Fisher this weekend to visit. I haven't been feeling too great the last few days and Ben was going to be busy all weekend so it was great to be able to have some help with Sophia and  visit:)  We went to some Fisher garage sales and Sophia got a new potty for.... 25 cents. It sings and lights up and I am hoping it gives her even more of a desire to use the potty. But, I doubt it will. She had fun putting beads and toys in it and listening to the music.

It rained much of the afternoon on Saturday but we still got out and went to the Prairie museum at Lake of the Woods, ate Monicals-my FAVORITE, and walked across the swinging bridge. All things that Sophia loved doing.

We also got to visit Great Grandma:

The weekend ended like this....Sophia on her chair, picking her nose, watching tv...lovely:

I also found a few other pictures on my card when I loaded it on my computer. She likes Ben to put on a tutu and dance with her...what a great Dad:

For my birthday Nikki and Dan came over to watch her while we went out to eat. She loved it...

Baby Accesories

Ben was gone all day today doing work so it was just little Sophie and me. We took a trip to our favorite thrift stores- well, my favorite, and even drove to a bookstore to buy a book about animals. Sophia loves animals so much and I have been looking for a great animal book. We bought an animal encyclopedia book and she has, at least, looked at it 10 times today. She loves to sit with us and go through each page pointing out all the different animals. This age is so much fun! During her nap I busted out my awesome new sewing machine and made a few bitty baby accessories for her. 2 little diapers, a "wipe"holder with little fleece "wipes", a shirt, and a pair of pants fashioned from an old 0-3 month pair. This new sewing machine makes me so happy and I am really loving all I can do with it! Here is a pic of Sophia getting right to work and changing baby's diaper. There are also a few pics of the accessories and clothes I made. I love having a little girl and being able to make little doll clothes!

Monter...finally

Finally got the Monster video to upload:

We read Sophia the same 3 books every night before bed and she seems to have one of them memorized in some parts....The book is I Love You Through and Through and if you can understand her little language you can tell she is reading it in her own little way:)....

A Little Early

Yesterday I came home before Ben and saw this sitting at our side door:

an early BIRTHDAY GIFT!!!  Why must Amazon always send big items in the actual box...you can never buy a surprise gift.  Anyways. I told myself to just let it sit there and wait til next week-my actual birthday-but after Sophia went to bed I couldn't resist. I decided I would just read the manual and then what do you know....that sewing machine ended up on my table

BTW...like my vinyl Halloween tablecloth? Just keeping with the holidays. So..the sewing machine-this thing is awesome. I guess I never realized how smooth a sewing machine can work. My other one was a few years old and a very basic machine-but it did a great job. This new one? It does an even better job. All sorts of stitches to chose from.... automatic needle threading....it's just plain awesome. Thank you Ben!!

The other day I checked out my garden....after neglecting it since it was doing nothing...and found these guys:

A little zucchini and spaghetti squash?!-NO WAY!  I have been hoping to grow both of these the last few years and it never happened. Go figure they decide to grow as the weather starts to get cold....but I will still enjoy them when they are ripe and maybe next year they will grow once again.

Sophia loves throwing leaves...here is a gif to prove it:

Monter

Sophia has this thing with monsters. She always thinks she sees monsters or hears monster or you name it..it's probably a monster. They don't always scare her too bad...but she is always saying "Monter!" We couldn't figure out where the heck she got this monster thing, but the other day as she was watching Caillou--her obsession show--they were talking about monsters. I'm pretty sure Caillou is to blame for this. At daycare they put up a ton of Halloween decorations and one is a giant Frankenstein monster. She kept saying "Monter" as we were leaving and kept bringing it up last night. While Ben and I were sitting in her room--and she was giving us her play food--she kept going over to Ben and telling him not to be scared of the "Monter". I got some of it on video...Of course it might be only Ben and I that can understand her little language...but you can definitely hear "Monter" in there.

AND Vimeo won't let me upload this video because I reached my weekly limit--come on! SOOO  I'll try to get it uploaded somewhere else or you'll just have to wait...In the mean time...

Sophia is such a lover of books...especially animal books. She was going through this one the other day naming the animals...This video isn't very clear...sorry.
